These podcasts have all made me laugh out loud but they’ve also been talking points between me and my friends.
If you have a friend who has just had a baby, you might be finding that suddenly your lives have gone in different directions. Babies are all consuming which can be really hard for new mums because suddenly their identity can be defined purely by this new life. Podcasts are a great ways for mums to feel part of the greater world and if you are both listening to the same podcast then it can be a really lovely way for you to stay in touch.
Podcasts are also a great way to while away the time whilst nursing so if you or your friend haven’t tried podcasts before then I’m super excited for you AND you’re welcome!
Here are some of my favourites for you to share.
The appearance of a new High Low podcast inevitably results in a spate of texts between me and my friends about:
a) all things Dolly and Pandora (the hosts)
b) how much we want to be their best friends or
c) the gaul of Dolly or Pandora to go on another bloody holiday without pre-recording a new podcast.
We are OBSESSED!
MDWAP sees Jamie, story teller and son of the author ‘Rocky Flintstone’, read aloud his father’s ‘erotic fiction’ to mates James and Alice…hilarity ensues.
Get ready to NOT hear anything remotely sexy or even anatomically accurate. Not to be listened to in public if you have just had a baby as you will likely pee your pants laughing!
NO SUCH THING AS A FISH is a podcast from the QI offices in which the writers of the hit BBC show huddle around a microphone and discuss the best things they’ve found out this week.
Somehow this podcast about facts is really funny.
If I felt like my brain was mush then NSTAAF would be the cure. If you just pick and choose episodes then you’ll love this because they are all stand alone eps.
CHAT 10 LOOKS 3 is the new cult for lovers of books, television, radio, movies, food, politics and whatever else takes the fancy of Annabel Crabb and Leigh Sales.
Who would have thought that two women whose lives revolve professionally at least around politics, could be so funny. Listen to an episode and if you love it then listen to all the previous episodes because there are regular references to ‘in’ jokes like Leigh’s dislike of birds and their mutual love of all things Helen Garner and Yotam Ottolenghi.
Be warned the sound quality in some early episodes is pretty bad but they have recently invested in sound equipment, so hang in there.
SHOW & TELL is hosted by Katie ‘Monty’ Dimond (one of the girls behind www.showandtellonline.com.au) who interviews a new public figure each episode.
I came across this podcast after the final episode of My Dad Wrote A Porno aired and I was craving podcasts. I started with the live shows and have not looked back. So funny but so, so rude so it might not be for everyone but I love their honesty – they shy away from NOTHING!
